What are Skin Lesions?
Skin lesions are characterized by abnormal growths on the skin in the form of dark spots, bumps or rashes. Although it is important to look for changes in these areas on your skin, most lesions do not present a medical concern, although some patients choose to have these removed due to medical or cosmetic reasons.
Common skin lesions that are removed are:
- Warts – Benign skin growths that develop when a virus infects the top layer of skin
- Moles – Small, dark spots caused by a cluster of pigmented cells
- Molluscum contagiosum – A viral infection that manifests as round, firm, painless bumps on the skin
- Skin tags – Small, soft skin growths thought to be caused by the friction of clothing on skin
What Skin Lesion Removal Techniques are Available?
At About Face Anti-Aging Institute, we offer multiple techniques to remove skin lesions. During your consultation with our Mr. Garberich, several factors will be considered such as the type, size and severity of your skin lesions in order to determine which method is best for you.
During a shave biopsy, Mr. Garberich uses a surgical tool similar to a razor blade to remove a small section of the top layers of skin, removing the lesion and leaving a small indent that typically does not require stitches.
A deeper form of shave biopsy, this technique uses a curved blade to scoop into the deep dermis, removing lesions in their entirety without excessive damage of the surrounding skin.
In cases where lesions are more severe, they may need to be surgically removed. Mr. Garberich performs careful excisions and takes care maintaining the integrity of the skin as much as possible.
Which Skin Lesion Removal Technique is Right for Me?
Mr. Garberich will carefully evaluate your unique skin condition and help you determine which technique is best for you. A customized treatment plan will be created for you, and a more in-depth explanation of your particular procedure will be discussed with you prior to treatment.
