Juvederm® is a type of injectable cosmetic filler containing hyaluronic acid that is used to correct wrinkles, creases and folds in the skin. Results can last from nine months to a year. It is a minimally invasive treatment, usually requiring only one treatment to achieve desired results. For these reasons, Juvederm® is a popular choice for patients looking to get rid of unwanted wrinkles and achieve smoother, suppler skin.
More about Juvederm®
In comparison to other hyaluronic fillers that are often grainy in consistency, Juvederm® products use a gel filler that provides a smoother result. A unique production method known as Hylacross technology is utilized to create a gel that is smoother and more malleable. You may be interested to know that hyaluronic acid is a sugar that occurs naturally in the body.
Products in the Juvederm® XC line contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in order to provide a more comfortable injection experience. In addition, some Juvederm® products are more concentrated formulas to address deeper folds and wrinkles in the skin.
What to Expect
Our treatment providers will use a very fine needle to inject Juvederm® into the skin. Though the injection site can be numbed or Juvederm® products containing lidocaine may be used, you can still expect some discomfort during and following the procedure. This discomfort is minimal. We can help you to understand which options are best for you.
After the procedure is complete, you will want to follow any instructions you are given. For example, avoidance of strenuous exercise is usually recommended during the first 24 hours following your Juvederm injection. Extensive heat or sun exposure should also be avoided, as well as alcoholic beverages. The reason for these precautions is that any of these things could irritate the injection site, leading to temporary itching, swelling or redness. If any of these symptoms do occur, an ice pack applied to the affected area should provide relief. You will want to discuss with your physician how long you should wait before applying any kind of cosmetics to the area following your procedure.
Although results from this minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment are temporary, they usually last between nine months to one year. Follow-up procedures will be required in order to maintain your desired results.
