Say Goodbye to Excess Body Hair with Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal

Body hair and the grooming of it is often equated with cleanliness, leading colleagues and supervisors to question your hygiene if you are a hairy individual. Being a bit hirsute can also impact your prospects in the dating world, where potential partners may be turned off by excess body hair. If you are tired of trimming, plucking, waxing, shaving or using depilatory creams to remove body hair again and again, laser hair removal can give you smooth, permanent results in as little as three treatments.

How It Works

Laser hair removal uses a pulse of light that has been precisely calibrated to treat only the roots of hair and leave your skin unaffected. The beam of light heats up the hair roots. The heat affects the hair follicles so that they will never grow hair again.

Just like hair won’t grow on a scar, hair won’t grow from a laser-treated follicle. Of course, this only works if the follicle has a hair root in it. Not every hair follicle is growing hair at all times. This is why multiple treatments are necessary to achieve a smooth result.

Preparing for Your Laser Hair Removal Treatments

As the laser works by differentiating between the color of your hair and the color of your skin, you’ll want the contrast to be as marked as possible. If you have a tan, you should wait for it to fade completely.

Don’t use self-tanners or bronzers in the meantime. You’ll also need to have hair roots in the follicles to be treated, meaning you shouldn’t pluck, wax or otherwise pull out hair on the treatment area for several weeks before your appointment.

Shaving beforehand is perfectly acceptable, as this leaves the hair roots intact. The laser is only safe for unbroken skin, so don’t pick at any blemishes you may have before treatment.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

While most people are good candidates, there are some conditions and situations that make laser hair removal an unwise decision. Those with skin diseases such as vitiligo, plaque psoriasis, eczema and cystic acne on the treatment area should not receive laser treatments.

The same is also true concerning poison ivy rashes, acne outbreaks or herpes. Once the skin has cleared, it’s then safe to have treatments. Our medical professional will, of course, go over your unique situation during a consultation and determine if you are a good candidate.
